Student Volunteers
|
Baltimore County Public Library welcomes students who need service learning hours. The main tasks of students volunteering at the library are shelving books and shelf-reading sections to keep them in order. Although the responsibilities are not limited to shelving and shelf-reading they are the main tasks because of the limited time we have with the students. Some other possible tasks: clearing book carts, shifting the book collection and sorting delivery. Training in the different tasks depends on how efficient the students are at shelving, the volume of the workload in the library and the number of hours the student is volunteering. There are more applications submitted than we have openings to fill and there are always student volunteer applications on file in the library. Periodically we review the applications and set up an interview with the student. Before this happens it is the student's responsibility to check with the school to be certain that the library is an acceptable choice for fulfilling his or her volunteer hours. We are looking for mature, dependable students who can follow directions. We are interested in students who have a history of being punctual and polite. If you have any questions pertaining to our volunteer program please feel free to call the library in which you would like to volunteer and ask for the Volunteer Coordinator.
To become a library volunteer please consult the map of Baltimore County Libraries to find the branch nearest you, then complete and submit an application form.
Potential Summer Reading Club volunteers should NOT complete the online application.
